Bank Account Questions

Can I open a Thai bank account on a tourist visa?
In some cases, yes — but it depends on the specific branch, the bank's current policy, and how you're introduced. We have experience getting accounts opened for clients on tourist visas at specific branches in Pattaya. Contact us to discuss your situation before visiting a bank on your own.
Which documents do I need to open a Thai bank account?
The standard requirements are your original passport with a valid visa stamp, a residence certificate from Jomtien Immigration (which we obtain for you), and sometimes a letter of introduction. Some banks may also request a medical certificate if you're opening an account for retirement visa purposes. We'll give you a confirmed checklist based on your visa type.
Do I need a Thai bank account for my retirement visa?
Yes, if you're using the lump-sum method (800,000 THB in a Thai account for 2–3 months before renewal). You do not need a Thai account if you're using the monthly income method, but it's still strongly recommended for ease of living in Thailand.
How long does the bank account opening take?
The appointment itself is typically 30–60 minutes once at the branch, assuming all documents are in order. We'll have checked everything beforehand, so there are no surprises on the day. Your debit card may be issued immediately or posted within a few days, depending on the bank.
